How to easily make bright, reusable glow sticks without chemicals or fluids. Yes, these glow sticks will glow brightly in the dark for repeated use for many years (its like an amazing, solid glow stick that can be used over and over again). This is a perfect project for Halloween (great for adding visibility to your little trick or treaters; aka kids), disaster prep, rave parties, black light parties and so much more. Charge with any direct light source and they will glow for hours! Quite literally; the maker of the key material claims a 10 - 12 hour glow time from a 30 minute charge under lights. Once this DIY project is complete you can use these as decorations, night lights, accent items and so much more. Make a bunch of these for use at a party, concert, or costume props (cool add on prop for many different costumes and characters). Kids of all ages love glow in the dark things so this can even be a great kids room decoration (while the materials have been represented as safe, non-toxic by the manufacturer I do use some smaller parts that could become choking hazards for really young kids so please be cautious in your use).
The basic glow stick is a great project to do with kids too! I especially like the use of cardboard tube as the base for this craft with kids because it is softer than solid materials... in case it gets used like a hammer (caution and supervision should still be exercised with children... or adults acting like children).
Materials used include:
-AceGlow tape (purchased from Amazon) other PVC/Vinyl glow tapes rated for 8+ hours will also work
-Clothes hanger tube - recycled (You can substitute other tubes, sticks or make one from rolled up construction paper)
-Decorative tape (Duct tape, silver/aluminum tape all available at discount stores)
-Foam ear plugs
-3/8” wood button plugs (originally purchased from a hardware store)
-3/8” wood dowel pins (originally purchased from a hardware store)
-Hot glue & craft glue (optional: for bonding plugs in ends of tubes/sticks)
-Spray Paint (optional: for decoration only)
-Push pins (optional: to assist with painting if desired)
