IELTS | Talk About A Movie You Saw Recently

IELTS CUE CARD: Talk about a movie you saw recently.
You should say:
- where you saw it
- what the movie was about
- why you chose to watch that particular movie
and say if you thought it was a good movie

CUE CARD ANSWER:
A while ago I watched The Mechanic 2 (Resurrection) starring Jason Statham and Jessica Alba. I watched it with some friends at home streamed over the internet. We had thought about going to watch it at the movies, but then my friend found it uploaded on a movie site before it was actually released here, so we decided to watch it online instead of waiting.

The movie is about a hitman or assassin who is an expert in killing people in ways that make the deaths look like accidents. The main character is played by Jason Statham and the movie is about him being tricked into killing three people by one of his old enemies.

Jessica Alba plays a character that is running a shelter and school for children, I think they were orphans, and basically the bad guy, the villain, in the movie uses her as leverage to trick Arthur Bishop (the character played by Statham) into bumping off his three main criminal rivals.

So the movie is like your typical action movie, with plenty of action and stunts and although the story is a little predictable there are some good parts in it and it was very enjoyable.

Anyway, as you can imagine, he manages to get even with the bad guy and rescue the girl by the end of the movie … and they meet up later at the shelter where she’s working, suggesting that everybody lives happily ever after – as you’d expect. Like I said, it’s a bit predictable, but still a fun movie.

We chose to watch it because we had seen the first movie The Mechanic a few years ago and we thought it was good. After watching that, we found out that it was based on an older movie from the 70s (based on a book) I think it was, with an actor called Charles Bronson, and we found that online too and watched it – it was good even though it was a much older version.

Overall, we thought it was a good movie; it continued in the same vein as the first one and was fun to watch. I don’t know if there’ll be a third one – but if there is I’ll probably want to watch that too.

Follow up question: What inspired you the most from the movie?

I think it would have to be the ingenious methods he used to bump off his victims - even though it's a movie, the writers nust have really good imaginations to come up with such ideas.
