Part 3 questions about law/lawyers (general)
Part 2 Question | sample answer:
Talk about an environmental law you think your country needs
- What is the law?
- Why it is important?
- Would this law be popular in your country?
It would probably be a good idea to make manufacturers use more recycled material in their products than they do currently. Perhaps legislation could be introduced to encourage them to use a certain percentage of recycled material in their packaging and things like that.
Clearly there are a lot of boxes, jars, bottles and plastic containers which just get thrown away – and the material might eventually be recycled in other parts, but think about, for example, a laundry detergent container made of plastic, which has to be manufactured, and then when the consumer has finished it – it’s simply thrown away. Wouldn’t it be great if the manufacturer could somehow reclaim the container, clean and process it as necessary and then simply reuse it, filling it with new laundry detergent.
It would save having to manufacture it all over again. Maybe large supermarkets could become involved as depositories for such containers and packaging and when goods are delivered to the sales outlet the delivery vehicle is also used to collect the used containers and return them to the manufacturing plant.
I’m not sure if it would be popular, but it would seem to make sense, when you go shopping you simply take your ‘empties’ with you and exchange them for new full containers of the product. That way the product manufacturers would only have to produce the cap for the container or bottle and not the whole container – there should be some way it could be made to work and still be cost-effective. Anyway, it’s just an idea, but there should be stricter laws about the amount of wastage involved in consumable products like this.
How would you asnwer this IELTS speaking question aboout an environmental law?
