Make a Big Bang - Boom! Very loud explosive sound can be quickly repeated! Want to scare someone or something? If you make this Burst Cannon then you will probably be scaring people even if you don't mean to. It is LOUD! In fact, I hit 126 decibels (db) in this video which is louder than a thunder clap; thunder rates in at 120 db according to Industrial Noise Control. In this video I demonstrate a step by step Dialed In version of the air cannon that I have developed over the past several years (link to that build is below). The completed Burst Cannon can be used anywhere without a compressor and repeated quicklky because we are also making burst discs that you can recycle.
Materials for burst cannon modifications:
* Burst Attachment (version 1):
- 3/4" X 3/4" PVC Union Adapter
- 9/16 Flat Washers
- Duct Tape
* Burst Attachment (version 2):
- 1" X 1" SCH 80 Union
- 7/8 Flat Washer
- Duct Tape & Foil Tape
- 3/4" PVC Nipple (this is threaded at both ends)
- 1" X 3/4" Threaded Bushing
How to make the Multipurpose Air Cannon (body for your burst cannon) - DIY compressed air: https://youtu.be/l2-zEyNZg4k
Materials for the air cannon:
- 2" diameter ABS pipe (1 - 2 feet)
- Shor piece of 3/4" PVC pipe
- 3/4" male PVC adapter (SXMPT - 2 total)
- 3/4" PVC ball valve - threaded connections
- 2" X 3/4" PVC Bushing (SPGXFPT)
- 2" PVC female adapter (SXFPT)
- 2" PVC Coupling (SXS / non-threaded)
- 2" PVC plug (MPT)
- PVC Cement
- Tubeless tire valve (available in auto supply stores and auto section of some other stores)
- Pipe tape (like plumbers tape except for made for gas)
You will notice that I use threaded parts in several spots. You can easily substitute out for pieces that can be cemented in place which can save you a little extra money in the purchase of parts. I prefer the threaded parts because it allows me to modify designs, fix or adjust the parts and it allows me to use things like the valves interchangeably on multiple air chambers. Plus, if I don't want the cannon anymore, then I can recycle my key parts for other projects.
