Fight the flu! Flu, cough, colds… it just leaves you and your loved ones feeling miserable. This video will show you one of the great things you can do for some Easy DIY relief. If you’ve ever used VapoRub, menthol cough drops or other products like that then you have already experienced the amazing effect that menthol has on cold and flu symptoms. Today I am showing how I make my version of VapoRub using only 4 ingredients that are pretty natural and healthy.
The two active ingredients that I use are menthol crystals (see below for amount) and eucalyptus oil (20 drops). I picked up the menthol crystals on line (4 ounces from Amazon) and the eucalyptus oil was actually found with a bunch of other essential oils at a local clearance store (i.e. Marshalls/TJ Max) but you can also find them in many stores and very easily on line.
There are also two inactive ingredients that I use for a base / carrier. This includes Coconut Oil (8 ounces) which can be found at most grocery stores and beeswax (1 ounce) which I also purchased from Amazon.
Store bought VapoRub has a menthol strength of 2.6%. I like to make mine about 6% but you can use the following amounts of menthol to Dial In your desired strength:
* 1 teaspoon = 2%
* 2 teaspoon = ~4%
* 3 teaspoon = ~6%

To use your finished product simply apply according to the same directions the store bought version. Personally, I like to spread a couple finger-fulls across my chest so that the menthol keeps rising up under my nose. According to research (some of which I show in the video) menthol works as a natural cough suppressant and topical analgesic. The Eucalyptus oil has a similar effect which is why this particular preparation can help provide relief during those pesky cold and flu seasons.
